Wandering Spirits Unbound

Wandering Spirits Unbound reimagines Singapore’s foundational mythologies by gathering mythical creatures, including the fierce swordfish, Kusu Island’s tortoise, Pulau Ubin's legendary animals, Sang Nila Utama’s lion, the elusive Monkey Man and the trickster Sang Kancil, into a surreal journey through the Bras Basah.Bugis district. The work incorporates batik motifs as a nod to Armenian Street's identity as a Craft x Design hub.

These tales have lingered in the hearts of generations of Singaporeans and, through this artwork, are manifested as invisible custodians of the land who have never truly left. By treating them as wandering spirits of the island, Wandering Spirits Unbound invites viewers to reconnect with the whimsical, ghostly, and profound cultural landscape that endures just beneath the surface.
