[Ticketed] COASTAL LIVES: Stories of the Sea – An Excursion to CMSG and RBC

Singapore’s story has long been shaped by the sea. COASTAL LIVES invites families on a living heritage journey across Children’s Museum Singapore and Reflections at Bukit Chandu to explore Singapore’s maritime heritage—through the nets of fishermen and the patterns woven into batik cloth. Begin at Children’s Museum Singapore, where WOVEN WAVES - Conceptualised by batik heritage expert Aqilah Zailan from Studio Gypsied and led by visual artist Cherlyn from Art Away Studio - reveals the stories hidden in batik patterns. Then board a charter bus as storyteller Kamini Ramachandran shares original audio tales and hands-on discovery activities en route to Reflections at Bukit Chandu. There, explore kelongs, fishing nets, and the rhythms of coastal life. Encounter vanishing kelong traditions with arts collective C.O.O.E., and learn about traditional fishing tools and knotting techniques. COASTAL LIVES is curated by Kamini Ramachandran and produced by The Artground for Singapore HeritageFest 2026.

Terms & Conditions:

  1. Please arrive 10 minutes before the programme start time (09:00am) for registration at the Children’s Museum Singapore lobby.
  2. Participants will begin with free & easy exploration at Children's Museum Singapore before the workshop activities.
  3. Families are required to gather at the designated meeting points at the stated times for each segment of the programme.
  4. The programme includes a bus journey between Children's Museum Singapore and Reflections at Bukit Chandu; all participants are to ensure they arrive punctually.
  5. The total duration of the programme is approximately 3 hours, including museum exploration, workshops, and travel.
  6. All children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  7. The optional bus return to Children's Museum Singapore / Harbourfront MRT will depart at approximately 12:15pm.

[Free Drop-In Activity] Before Pulau Ubin: The Great Animal Race

Who will win the Great Animal Race? Inspired by the beloved legend of Pulau Ubin, this free interactive adventure invites audiences of all ages to choose their champion, the Frog, Pig or Elephant, before helping them race towards victory. Begin your journey at the Children’s Museum Singapore carpark by colouring your very own animal sticker, then follow the adventure to the giant animal installations outside Bible House, where your vote helps decide the fate of the race. Surrounded by an immersive soundscape that brings the legend to life, every sticker adds to a growing community artwork and every vote counts. Follow the race standings announced each evening on Children’s Museum Singapore’s social media and return to discover which animal will be crowned champion at the end of the festival.

[Free Drop-In Activity] Time Travel Capsule Craft

Celebrate Singapore’s birthday with a journey through time! Inspired by WonderBot and the Time Travel Capsule, Children's Museum Singapore’s first children’s book, little explorers can create and decorate their very own time travel capsule using a variety of colourful craft materials. Families are also welcome to browse through copies of the book and follow WonderBot and Chloe as they travel back in time to discover the sights, sounds, and stories of old Singapore.

[Free Drop-In Activity] Stamping the Coast: A Batik-Inspired Activity by Art Away Studio

Stamping the Coast is a fun, hands-on activity inspired by the art of batik. Children can create their own designs using coastal-themed stamps and colourful ink, exploring patterns and motifs while making a unique artwork to bring home.

COASTAL LIVES invites families on a living heritage journey into Singapore’s maritime past. Begin at the Children’s Museum Singapore with WOVEN WAVES - Conceptualised by batik heritage expert Aqilah Zailan from Studio Gypsied and led by visual artist Cherlyn from Art Away Studio - discovering the stories and motifs within batik. Then board a charter bus where storyteller Kamini Ramachandran’s original audio tales and hands-on activities guide you toward Changi Chapel and Museum. There, experience TASTES OF THE TIDES with Emylia Safian and Minh Le Tien, exploring Laksa Siglap and the culinary heritage of coastal kampong life. COASTAL LIVES is curated by Kamini Ramachandran and produced by The Artground for Singapore HeritageFest 2026.
