BungaWari: Disentangling the romance of sundance textiles
In Bungawari, there lives Sang Hyang Sri, a heavenly female figure who represents the essence of life and creations, including magnificent textiles. Alas, there lies deep philosophy behind the beauty of woven textiles made of wari flowers – cotton flowers which are the basic component of a textile and the body of life. In BungaWari: Disentangling the Romance of Sundanese Textiles, Agnes Christina interprets old palm-leaf manuscripts and weaving process to illustrate contemporary femininity, sexuality, spirituality, and vulnerability.nu kangken wungawari ma sarira; nu kangken kanteh ta ma, na hdap; nu kangken bwaéh, sang hyang pramana. What is called wari flower is the body; what is called thread is the intellect; what is called cloth is correct judgement.
