Archives Invites Toh Hun Ping
Archives Invites: Toh Hun Ping
Archives Invites: Toh Hun Ping
On 23 Jan 1925, Wong So Ying, a young Chinese woman with anarchist leanings, exploded a bomb at the office of the Protector of Chinese in Kuala Lumpur, injuring the Protector, another European officer and herself.
In this talk, film researcher Toh Hun Ping will trace the eventful history of the case known as the “Kuala Lumpur Bomb Outrage”, using declassified colonial-era documents held at the National Archives of Singapore. He will highlight the role of a Singapore-based film company in the bomb outrage and its relationship to a short-lived anarchist movement across Singapore and Malaya during the early 20th century.
