Experience the enchantment of hypnotic drum beats at this workshop open to participants of all ages who are keen to pick up a new beat.
Rentak Akar means ‘Rhythm of The Roots’ in Malay. The workshop will showcase a variety of Malay drums and percussions commonly found in Singapore, like the rebana, kompang, hadrah, jidur and gong.
Participants will learn five iconic and vibrant drum beats – Inang, Joget, Asli, Masri and Zapin, played by drummers throughout the Malayan archipelago, and gain a better appreciation of the Malay musical heritage through the rhythms of these drums.
