TITUS ANDRONICUS
TITUS ANDRONICUS
Synopsis:
Grotesquely violent and daringly experimental in the days of Shakespear’s early career, Titus Andronicus was the smash hit but he was never to repeat the ghoulish style elsewhere.
The Roman general, Titus Andronicus, returns victorious from war, only to plant the seeds of future turmoil for himself and his family. After defeating the Goths in a ten-year campaign, he finds that he has lost many sons, but has among his captives are the queen of the Goths, Tamora, and her three sons.
After turning down the crown and throne, Titus finds himself trapped in a nightmarish cycle of vengeance, misery, and bloodshed.
“Alas! a crimson river of warm blood,
Like to a bubbling fountain stirr’d with wind,
Doth rise and fall between thy rosed lips…”
