Step into the workspace of master rattan craftsman Chen Foon Kee for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at his collaboration with well-known product designer Nathan Yong.

This interactive tour brings participants to Chun Mee Rattan Furniture which was established in Singapore 50 years ago by the Chen family.

This tour is part of the National Heritage Board’s Craft X Design initiative, bridging traditional craftsmanship with contemporary innovation. Join acclaimed designer Nathan Yong as he guides the tour, sharing insights from his ongoing collaboration with the craftsman while exploring the intersection between traditional craft and contemporary design.

For this year’s edition of Craft X Design, the National Heritage Board is showcasing product designs that spotlight qualities of traditional local craftsmanship, whilst demonstrating the potential for these prototypes to be commercially produced and retailed.
 
Nathan Yong Design & Heath Yeo

Heath Yeo, a fashion design graduate from LASALLE College of the Arts, worked with established local designers before discovering his passion for traditional Kebaya embroidery. Learning Sulam from a renowned Singapore Kebaya maker, he now dedicates himself to preserving this fine craft.

Nathan Yong is an award-winning Singaporean product designer known for his minimalist yet deeply thoughtful designs. With a background in industrial design, he founded the renowned furniture brand Grafunkt and has worked with international brands like Ligne Roset and Herman Miller.
