Learn time-honoured Peranakan embroidery techniques directly from artisan Heath Yeo, while discovering the rich heritage behind this traditional craft.

Get exclusive behind-the-scenes access to a work-in-progress as Heath and Nathan reveal their creative process, challenges, and vision for merging traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design in an exclusive preview of their upcoming collaborative product design.

CXD Workshop (Embroidery)
This interactive, hands-on workshop introduces participants to the joy of embroidery and weaving through traditional Kebaya making techniques. Participants will get to design a motif and try embroidery on the vintage treadle sewing machine.

Participants will also gain exclusive behind-the-scenes access as designer Nathan Yong and Heath Yeo share their creative journey, challenges and breakthroughs from their ongoing collaboration as part of NHB’s Craft x Design initiative. A rare insider's look into their collaborative process - unmissable for designers, crafts practitioners and creative minds.

For this year’s edition of Craft X Design, the National Heritage Board is showcasing product designs that spotlight qualities of traditional local craftsmanship, whilst demonstrating the potential for these prototypes to be commercially produced and retailed.
Nathan Yong Design & Heath Yeo

Heath Yeo, a fashion design graduate from LASALLE College of the Arts, worked with established local designers before discovering his passion for traditional Kebaya embroidery. Learning Sulam from a renowned Singapore Kebaya maker, he now dedicates himself to preserving this fine craft.

Nathan Yong is an award-winning Singaporean product designer known for his minimalist yet deeply thoughtful designs. With a background in industrial design, he founded the renowned furniture brand Grafunkt and has worked with international brands like Ligne Roset and Herman Miller.
