Explore Singapore’s influential role on the ancient maritime Silk Road through the evocative lens of scent. This programme journeys through the history of the spice trade, highlighting the arrival of highly prized commodities such as nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, and pepper at Singapore’s ports. Participants will discover how these aromatic ingredients transitioned from culinary staples into essential components of medicine, spiritual rituals, and perfumery. Through curated scent profiles and historical storytelling, the session reveals the sensory impact of this global hub of trade on our regional culture and daily rituals.
