Silambam is a popular variant of weapon-based martial arts which is performed with the aid of specific weapons, primarily rattan staffs, short sticks, deer horns and swords. Participants will be introduced to the different weapons used in Silambam, and the respective techniques of use. In hands-on practise, students will be taught basic Silambam skills such as Vettu (Attack) and Vaaral (Defence) spins using the 5-foot wooden staff.
Though these movements may seem simple, participants will quickly find out that doing it with the correct techniques can be a challenging process. Learning the proper techniques can enable the participants to experience youthfulness mentally as well as physically.
