Uncover the maritime stories hidden in batik in this hands-on family workshop! Discover how Southeast Asian batik textiles act as “maritime archives”, with clouds, waves and sea creatures woven into patterns that once guided fishermen, traders and travellers.
Led by batik designer Aqilah Zailan from Studio Gypsied, families will learn to decode these meaningful motifs using specially designed stamps such as Tumbuh (clouds) and Asmara (waves).
Follow the Nusantara journey through the collection of stamps and create your own maritime story-cloth to bring home. Through stamping, storytelling and play, discover how batik makers transformed fabric into living records of the sea!
Programme is recommended for ages 6 – 12 and their caregivers.
