The vestiges of Singapore's colonial era can be seen in much of our architecture, including colonial bungalows and mansions, colloquially known as Black & White (B&W) houses. Step back into a more gracious era as we stroll through lovely green and tranquil oases to explore their history, architecture, and role in Singapore’s heritage. Plus, discover the stories of who lived in them, why they were built, and how they are being used today both as residences and commercial establishments. Gallop Road where you'll discover our (arguably) oldest B&W house, Atbara & its neighbour, Inverturret , both designed by the star architect of Singapore in the late 19th/early 20th century, RAJ Bidwell of Swan & Maclaren fame. Learn the story behind their original owners, the names they gave these houses and what they have both been used for over the years.
