The boat adventure begins at the SAF Yacht Club, where we will board a speedy catamaran and cruise out to the Northeastern waters of Singapore. Led by a knowledgeable tour guide who has navigated the waters of Singapore for years, participants are in for an eye-opening journey.

We will explore in-depth the unique sights seen out at sea, such as the different traditional methods of fishing (Kelong versus fishnet fishing from boat) and the structural built of various types of Kelongs (floating fish farms). We will also share interesting fun facts about Singapore’s history with regards to the surrounding islands, using imagery of the past. An important aspect of this boat tour is to educate people about the local fish farming industry. Guests will learn about the livelihood of a fisherman, the challenges of having a wooden kelong in the sea, and the struggles of the fish farming industry. The intention is to promote sustainability in fish farming and shed insights on why we should support local produce. The highlight would be an actual visit to Smith Marine Kelong, the first Floating Seafood Restaurant in Singapore located just off the coastal waters of Pulau Ubin. Here, city-dwellers can enjoy a rustic experience on one of the last remaining Kelongs in Singapore and get the rare opportunity to purchase fresh fish straight from the farm.
