Immerse yourself in a 19th-century Straits Chinese home and discover the conservation efforts which went behind the restoration of the NUS Baba House in 2007.

This special house tour led by the Baba House NUS student facilitators will spotlight the unique architectural features of Baba House and is a rare opportunity for you to see the conservation works needed to maintain and restore built heritage in progress. As you explore the house, learn about the initial challenges conservationists faced in order to return the house to its former glory..

From the emerging environmental threats towards heritage architecture to the difficulties of preserving intangible heritage in the face of declining traditional knowledge and skills, uncover how the conservationists navigated these hurdles and developed sustainable conservation techniques- all whilst grappling with maintaining architectural 'authenticity’..

At the end, get a chance to contribute to an open opinion board response to our upcoming conservation works in 2025, and participate in ongoing conversations about our urban heritage and its future..

*Please note that Baba House is currently undergoing survey works to prepare for upcoming major restorations next year. Scaffolding and equipment may be present throughout the building. We apologize for the inconvenience caused.
