About The Urbanist Singapore

Meet Yong, a passionate heritage enthusiast dedicated to sharing Singapore's rich heritage in a fun and engaging way! Yong's journey began with his NUS geography honours thesis in 2009, exploring how colonial buildings matter to younger Singaporeans. His thesis, which won the Preservation of Monuments Board’s Undergraduate Thesis Grant, laid the groundwork for his passion for Singapore’s heritage.

Today, Yong is the mastermind behind @urbanist.singapore, a TikTok and Instagram account with over 20K followers. Through entertaining and insightful videos, Yong bridges the gap between urban design and built heritage, making heritage accessible to a new generation.

Yong's passion extends beyond the digital realm. As a hobby, he leads captivating heritage walking tours around Singapore. With Yong as your guide, you'll explore hidden stories behind iconic landmarks, bringing the city's past to life with every step.

Yong's approachable style and knack for storytelling make even the most complex histories easy to understand and enjoyable for everyone. Join Yong on an adventure through Singapore's vibrant past, where every street corner holds a treasure trove of stories waiting to be uncovered!

Asian Civilisations Museum

The Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) presents the art and history of Asia through the lens of Singapore as a cosmopolitan Asian port city — connecting people and cultures in Asia and beyond. As the only museum in the region with a pan-Asian scope, ACM is devoted to exploring the rich artistic heritage of Asia through our outstanding collection of masterpieces and ground - breaking special exhibitions. Opened in 1997 and in its present building by the Singapore River since 2003, the museum traces its roots to the Raffles Museum, founded in the middle of the 19th century.

ACM celebrates Asian art, craft, and imagination through four broad cross- cultural themes — Maritime Trade, Faith and Belief, Materials and Design, and Peranakan art and culture.
