(Her)Story of the Majies
What to Expect:

Explore Their Legacy
Wander through the very streets where the Majies once lived and worked. These strong, independent women formed resilient, close-knit communities while serving as amahs (domestic helpers) for generations of Singaporean families.

Unveil Their Rituals and Traditions
Visit historical sites tied to Majie heritage — where vows of celibacy were once taken and rituals observed. Hear stories of sisterhood, mutual support, and the festive traditions that bound them together — some of which still continue to resonate in contemporary Singapore.

Flavours of Home
Originating from the cradle of Cantonese cuisine and a UNESCO City of Gastronomy, Majies brought with them rich culinary traditions. Discover the stories behind treasured recipes, and see how their flavours continue to shape Singapore’s food heritage today.
Qixi Festival
Qixi Fest (七夕乞巧嘉年华) is an initiative with the community to revive and reimagine the "wish upon the stars festival" brought over by our foremothers to Singapore as early as in the 19th century. Inaugurated in 2023, this annual festival is curated with an emphasis on mastery of crafts, less known (her)story of our foremothers, and fun-filled activities that bond generations.
