Langkah Laut (Sea Steps)
Discover the Living Heritage of the Orang Laut Community at Pasir Panjang

Step into the world of Singapore’s Indigenous maritime community in this immersive programme at West Coast Park, a site of deep significance to the Orang Laut. Hosted by Orang Laut descendant Firdaus Sani, this experience sheds light on the vibrant traditions, sustainable practices, and untold stories of the Southern Islands' original inhabitants.

What to Expect:
- Guided Tour & Storytelling – Learn about the history, cultural resilience, and identity of the Orang Laut community, and how urban development has shaped their way of life.

- Meet Former Islanders – Hear first-hand accounts of life then and now, explore their community space, and get up close with traditional Bubu fish traps.

- Jong Building Activity – Participate in assembling a model of the Jong, a traditional sailboat, and preserve a maritime skill passed down through generations.

- Tanah dan Air Garden Tour – Discover native plants with cultural significance, play interactive games, and taste local fruits and heritage dishes prepared by members of the Southern Island community.

- This is more than a tour – it’s a rare opportunity to engage with Indigenous knowledge, cultural preservation, and sustainability efforts rooted in Singapore’s southern seas.

Come walk, learn, taste, and connect with a part of Singapore’s heritage few have experienced.
