Embark on a culinary voyage through Pulau Brani's rich maritime heritage. Experience cherished island recipes as former residents share their seafaring stories, guiding you in crafting authentic dishes that echo generations of tradition.

Pulau Brani A Maritime Legacy Through Taste (Culinary Workshop)
Between Singapore's bustling mainland and Sentosa lies Pulau Brani, once a vibrant tapestry of maritime life where the Orang Laut community, Riau islanders, Malay and Chinese communities, and British colonials coexisted until the 1960s. Though now transformed into a naval base and port terminal, the island's rich cultural heritage lives on through its former inhabitants.

Join us for an intimate gathering where descendants and former residents of Pulau Brani share their treasured memories of island life. Discover the sophisticated simplicity of their sustainable fishing traditions, ancestral sea foraging wisdom, and the art of communal food preparation. Learn about the aromatic spices and time-honoured condiments that defined their cuisine.

The storytelling naturally flows into a culinary demonstration where you'll participate in the final assembly of traditional dishes, experiencing firsthand how these flavors come together. This hands-on experience offers more than just a meal—it's a taste of Singapore's maritime soul.
Singapore Heritage Society

Founded in 1987 as a non-profit organisation, the Singapore Heritage Society is an independent voice for heritage conservation in Singapore. Our work is guided by our definition of heritage as ‘the living presence of the past’. Singapore’s history is a vital part of our identity and growth. Social bonds are strengthened when we understand and cherish the social memories of past and present generations in the spaces we protect. These beliefs drive our key efforts in research, public education, and advocacy.
