A collaboration between MPA and the Old Engineering Apprentices Association (OEAA).

As part of Singapore HeritageFest 2026, theSingapore Maritime Gallerywill host a series of public talks and guided tours, in line with this year’s theme of Maritime Heritage.

This talk by the OEAA will include a 30-minute documentary screening and a human library session. Participants can engage with OEAA members, who began as apprentices in the British Naval Base, Sembawang Shipyard, and the Singapore Harbour Board from 1955 to the early 1970s. These individuals overcame humble beginnings to become engineers and maritime pioneers, eventually forming OEAA in 1969. Their inspiring stories highlight the transformative power of technical education and its pivotal role in shaping Singapore’s maritime industry.

Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), established in 1996, drives Singapore’s development as a global hub port and international maritime centre. In 2026, as MPA marks its 30th anniversary, the Singapore HeritageFest 2026 spotlights Maritime Heritage. MPA has initiated collaborations with our partners to curate a series of programmes spanning vessel visits, guided tours, talks and fun lifestyle activities—bringing Singapore’s rich maritime story to life for all.
