Friday (22 May): 3pm - 5.30pm

Before indulging in the signature dish of Bak Kut Teh (Pork Rib Soup) and accompanying Nanyang Tea, Song Fa will guide participants through the rich history and origins of this beloved pairing. The session explores its cultural roots, including links to Singapore’s early maritime trade, where labourers and immigrants along the bustling port relied on hearty soup and tea for nourishment.

As Song Fa and Pek Sin Choon highlight the harmonious pairing of Bak Kut and tea, participants will discover how regional trade routes shaped the flavours and traditions we recognise today. The session also underscores the importance of preserving this culinary heritage, reflecting Singapore’s identity as a historic free-trading hub.

Participants will also gain insights into how both Song Fa and Pek Sin Choon continue to innovate and adapt their offerings, ensuring Bak Kut Teh and traditional Nanyang tea remain relevant in an ever-changing world.

Pek Sin Choon provides a range of Nanyang Tea to Song Fa for its Bak Kut Teh restaurants. This forms an interesting partnership of Bak Kut (Song Fa) + Teh (Pek Sin Choon).
