Discover the seafaring legacy of the "People of the Tide" through the art of the Teochew Png Kueh. This immersive experience traces the journey of the iconic "rice peach" from Southern China to Singapore’s ports, symbolizing longevity and resilience. You will master the use of Kueh moulds and learn the origins behind the translucent pink skin and savoury rice filling.

Beyond culinary craft, this workshop is the heart of Yoon’s social mission. As a social enterprise, we provide a safe, dignified training platform for female ex-drug offenders to reclaim their lives. Every knead and fold supports their professional reintegration and sustainable employment. By participating, you are not just preserving a fading culinary heritage; you are directly fuelling a transformative second chance for our beneficiaries. Join us to celebrate culture and impact, where every kueh tells a story of survival, migration, and hope.

Sendok Rakyat Cooking Club: Celok Boyan

16 - 17 May • 02:00pm

Kuah Celok is a tangy, refreshing fish soup that warms you from the inside out - every crevice of your heart and bones. It's not a dish you could easily walk into a restaurant and order, unless you happen to be good friends with someone who traces their ancestry to a small island just north of Surabaya and Madura, in the Java Sea.

Come join the Sendok Rakyat Cooking Club and cook Kuah Celok with a community of friends. This edition, we'll be cooking Kuah Celok, while we chat about how food can be a vehicle of connection - in this instance, with our Baweanese roots through our late grandparents (whom we've never met in person). We'll unpack how memory is embedded in heritage, taste, and ritual.

Everyone's welcome to join the Cooking Club. No experience necessary, just the willingness to contribute to making good food, good conversation, and sharing the space with the community!
