Cherita-Singapura
This performance will be presented at HOMEGROUND @ ACM Green.

Saturday (2 May): 6pm - 6.30pm

Immerse yourself in the founding myth of the 'Lion City' through the dramatic lens of Kathakali, a traditional Indian dance form. This performance depicts the epic sea journey of Prince Sang Nila Utama as he navigates the seas of the archipelago towards Temasek. The narrative reaches a climax as the ship encounters a ferocious storm, prompting the prince to throw his crown overboard as a gift to the sea to ensure safe passage. Upon reaching land and encountering a legendary lion, the prince bestows the name Singapura upon the island, bringing this maritime legend to life through vivid costume and stylised movement.
